I Predicted It!

I predicted it!

No, I didn’t predict who would be voted as our new president! I did predict that we would all wake up Wednesday morning and the world would go on. And I was right.

You want to know how I was able to predict this with such certainty?

The answer is in this weeks Torah portion. G-d blesses Abraham and tells him that his children will be as the stars in the sky. Practically speaking, we are far from the number of the stars in the sky as we constitute less than 1% of the worlds population.

There are various commentaries on the verse, but a real simple one is this. The stars are eternal and so are the Jewish People. And so, I knew that the world will go on and life will go on.

But there is a question we need to ask, also inspired by this Torah portion. As Abraham’s descendants, we are charged with the same mandate that he was charged with. That charge is to bring the word of Hashem to the world, to be the torch bearers of all that is holy, good and upright.

This is a question that we could and should ask ourselves in this new world. What are we doing today to fulfill our mandate? Regardless of who you voted for, this is a question we can all ask ourselves.

As the world moves on from the never ending campaigning and meshugas of the past few years, we Jews need to remember that our job in this world transcend politics. It’s much larger than that and it never changes.

Good Shabbos!
