I was chatting with a friend who is navigating some challenges in his life and he said, “wouldn’t it be nice if I got an email with a powerpoint from G-d with clear instructions of what my purpose is so I can see how all of these challenges are part of the grater picture?”.

Then he mused; “I’d probably think it was spam”.  We had a nice chuckle but then I got to thinking…

All too often we are so caught up in our day to day, doing it, doing it, doing it, that when the divine emails come in we think they’re spam.

This time of year is a good opportunity to clear our inbox and move the items that mistakenly have been labeled spam back to our inbox.

As the summer heat dissipates and fall breezes flow the winds of Elul begin to blow and the sound of the shofar begins to sound.

A New Year is upon us!  The Baal Shem Tov gives us a parable to give us perspective on this season.

A King is returning to his palace. On his way he passed through the fields where the common folk are.  There in the field he smiles, welcomes their requests and concerns.

The King is G-d who will arrive in the Palace and the royal throne room on the High Holidays.  On His way, He passed through the fields where everyone has equal access, the one who knows how to pray and the one who doesn’t, the one who is a great scholar and the one who is not, the one who has done good and the one who has fallen short.

The King reaches out with His smile and welcomes us.  This is the real G-d of our forefathers, a loving, warm and embracing G-d who is encouraging and anticipating a renewal to our relationship.

Make sure this email doesn’t end up in spam :-).

May you and yours be inspired, reconnected and blessed with a Happy and Healthy New year and Good Shabbos!
