When was the last time you said hello to yourself? I mean, sat down and had a good shmooze. I’d ask when was the last time you had coffee together with yourself but the one day a year when we can really say hello is a day that we don’t eat or drink – that is of course Yom Kippur.

And it’s happening next week, Tuesday night and Wednesday day.

In our Pre Rosh Hashanah Instagram Live and Zoom discussion with Mrs. Yocheved Sidof, a participant asked; “I have a difficult time with my relationship with G-d.  It seems like all the dos and don’ts make it a quid pro quo relationship.”

Yocheved replied; “it seems like you want a more real relationship with G-d.  It seems like you are looking for a real connection on a soul level”.

Wow! That is powerful.  We are all deep down looking for a real, unconditional relationship with G-d.

Aren’t we all also looking for a real relationship with ourselves?  Aren’t we all looking for a connection to our own core that is uncomplicated and unfettered by all of our external stuff?

In fact, a real relationship with G-d is a real relationship with our own core. Because after all our real core is a part of G-d – a Neshama!

And although we can’t live perpetually in that perfect space of a relationship with G-d or with the G-d within us, once a year we get to say hello.

All of the practices of Yom Kippur are designed to remove the clutter, the noise, the distraction, so that we can be at peace and oneness with ourselves.

So this Yom Kippur come say hi to yourself.  Join us at Chabad Intown at one of our services, Pre-YK Dinner and inspiration, Learner’s with Scholar in Residence Shimona Tzukernik, Children’s program and Family Service with Rabbi Schusterman and more.

Also, tonight please join Mrs. Shimona Tzukernik for a delicious taste of Yom Kippur.

Wishing you a pleasant and transformative meeting with yourself this Yom Kippur!
