A Chasidic saying (paraphrased); An unworked field doesn’t yield any produce.  When we work the ground and plant then when it rains it grows.

The season is a softer one no doubt with our deeper meaning of the holidays according to the teachings of Chasidus and infused with our new understandings of neuroscience and the inner workings of the human condition.

Nonetheless, it is still a taxing season.  Lots of praying, lots of reflection, lots of emotion, all of these add up.  Throw in the grand finale of Yom Kippur, 25 hours plus of fasting and praying and the field is well worked, the seeds have been planted and it’s time to let it grow.

Once we’ve done our part, we only have Heaven to rely on for success. Rain, right amount of sunlight, and prayer are all part how we bring the growth to fruition.

I recently read a beautiful essay of the Alter Rebbe, first Chabad Rebbe, that the watering of that which we planted is through Torah study.  Torah is likened to water and this time of year is a time of good resolutions.

Between the joy of this holiday and good resolutions of Torah study, our year is off the a great start!! Watch it grow!!

Chag Sameach and Good Shabbos!
